I constantly hear from parents how difficult it is for them to help their children with their homework. With what burden they go home after a working day, realizing that they still have to learn lessons with their child. Re-pass the entire school curriculum, which has changed beyond recognition. Sometimes adults with the whole family solve the problem of the second class. Parents complain about teachers that “they do not want to do their job and“throw off”it on the parents. Teachers complain about parents not providing any support. Is it really? I am sure that in most cases both of them try! Let's try to figure out why a child cannot complete his homework on his own. Ideally, the school material should be assimilated in school, and the homework should be the consolidation of new information.
Domestic psychologist L. S. Vygotsky attaches great importance to psychological readiness for school, which consists of several components:
1. The attitude of a child's close people to school directly influences and shapes his attitude to new activities. The child must understand that for the next 10-11 years this is his main "job". It is necessary to constantly tune and maintain his desire to learn something new. Asking questions: “What new things have you learned today? Please tell us! " Moreover, constantly apply new knowledge. For example, a child came home from school and told you that he now knows the difference between the words "dialogue" and "monologue." When talking to him, emphasize that now it is a dialogue between you. Thus, the acquired knowledge is incorporated into the child's daily life.
2. Under the age of 12-14, a significant adult and authority for a child is his teacher.
Maintain respect for the teacher, even if you are not happy with something, in any case do not show your face. Talk to a teacher without a child. Agree that "Maria Ivanovna" knows best how to complete this or that task. Then the child will not have internal contradictions: how to solve the problem? As my mother said or as explained at school.
3. School is the first collective in a child's life associated with new activities, studies. It is there that the child receives the first objective assessment of his results, he learns to perceive criticism, communicate, make friends, argue with classmates. It is worth supporting the child in making new friends. Invite them home, throw sweet parties, cook lessons together, organize a hike. Thus, children will perceive your child as kind and generous, interesting and cheerful, because he has such a kind and generous, interesting and funny mom or dad! Children still do not know how to make objective assessments of each other and project their impressions of their parents onto their classmates.
4. Praise, but don't over-praise your child! It is a huge mistake of adults when evaluating work or grades at school, they exclaim: “You are my best! You are the best in the class! I agree that parental love is unconditional, but the danger is stored in the child's improperly formed self-esteem. He must understand that if someone draws better than him, then he needs to devote more time to this subject. If he really counts faster than his friend Vovka, then you need to explain to him that this is a temporary phenomenon and his friend needs help and more time. In this case, the child develops a correct understanding of the difficulties. He understands that if something does not work out, he must work harder, and not cry and give up, and even more so not to ridicule someone.
But what if you still missed the moment of mood, adaptation and preparation for school? And now homework is a punishment and a waste of nerves for you. All of the above points are not excluded, in any case. Gradually place the reins in the hands of the child. Motivating this with his busyness, tactfully and imperceptibly agreeing: “Sonny, we have nothing to eat, and soon dad will come home from work. Let's do this, you will do the work yourself in the draft, while I will peel the potatoes for now. Let's see who will do it faster and better! Do not be lazy, use elements of the game and competition, on the contrary, it will save your time, keep the child's positive attitude towards learning and your relationship.
Here are some not tricky recommendations for completing some items:
Literature … The most common task in literature is to read the text and answer questions. This is what we usually do. Try doing it the other way around. First read the questions, and then the text itself. Reading the content of the text, the child willingly isolates the answers, and it is much easier for him to remember the content. Ask your child to underline unknown words in the text, and be sure to clarify the meaning of these words. Scientists have noticed that an unknown word in the text is used as a wall, a shield. After an incomprehensible word, all further text is not perceived. Explanatory dictionary to help you!
Foreign language … Probably everyone remembers how awful the "cramming" of words was perceived. In fact, there are interesting games during which you can learn at least 15-20 words in half an hour. Checked!
"Walkers". Children are happy to play it, because at this point they do not see the learning element. It will be great if the child has someone to compete with. So, the children stand in one line. The parent asks the word in Russian: "How will the cat be?" If the child gives the correct answer "a cat", he takes a step forward. If he is wrong, he takes a step back. The winner is the one who is the first to reach a certain line! You cannot imagine how much laughter and positive emotions children experience! With what zeal they learn words to win next time!
"Tricky Cards". What is the worst thing to remember in a foreign language? Of course, the account, days of the week, months, colors, letters, especially if asked in a scattered way. Cunning cards solve this problem. Cut rectangles out of cardboard or thick paper to simulate playing cards. For example, we are learning the English alphabet. On one side of the cards, write letters, be sure to uppercase and lowercase "A a". Shuffle the cards. Show the child one card at a time and ask: “Which letter is this? (color, number, sound in transcription). If the child answers correctly, the card is his, if he is mistaken, the card is yours. The one with the most cards wins! Everything is very simple, but interesting!
Be smart, because you know your child better than anyone else, playing with you is a real pleasure for him, and you yourself will get a piece of childhood and communication with your child. Let him do his lessons in different places, on different tables, and in different rooms. Let the TV work or the music play. Only at first it will distract him, but in the future it will play an invaluable help in his development. He will be able to concentrate as much as possible in any situation, regardless of the noise or the number of people around. Be patient and you will get an EASILY learning child in return!
P. S. Write in the comments in what subjects your child is experiencing difficulties and together we will try to find a way out for him. All the best to you!
