Hunger and appetite: how are these two concepts related to eating behavior?
Hunger is the body's physiological response to exhaustion.
Appetite is an emotional response to an external stimulus. This irritant can be anything: a certain food, a situation of stress or boredom, a regular meal time, the company of people with whom you usually eat.
It turns out that appetite is not always accompanied by hunger.
How to learn to distinguish them so as not to overeat?
Develop a habit of observing yourself when an appetite appears: does it accompany the feeling of hunger?
And if not, then answer yourself the question: how much do I need to eat to satisfy my appetite, but not hunger?
Saturation is also an important sensation in eating behavior.
How soon do you feel full after satisfying your hunger?
Do you manage to feel it before you get fed up and overeat?
What makes you continue to eat after the satiety has appeared?
Apart from satisfying hunger, what role does food play in your life? Do you want to find healthy replacements for these items?
Should I go on a diet?
When we understand that we eat more than our slender friends, and our diet is more harmful, it becomes clear that something needs to be changed.
But what? Switching to an absolutely healthy diet? An extreme temporary diet?
It's no secret that diet lovers then gain more than they lost.
And the constant fear of falling out does not add motivation.
After all, it seems that if one breaks loose, there is no longer any point in controlling nutrition.
My answer to the question is to go on a diet! No, not forever.
My diet has two essential qualities: satiety and flexibility.
Food should be as healthy and satisfying as possible. The stronger the feeling of hunger, the more likely it is to break down.
The best diet is individual. If I don't like something, I change it. The more the diet meets your needs, the longer you will stay on it.
At the very beginning, it seems that you can never give up sweets in large quantities and other harmfulness.
It seems that healthy food is bland and you can't eat it.
Whereas taste is a subjective sensation and a matter of habit.
Personally, my tastes changed after the food changed.
Dishes that previously seemed delicious have become sugary.
And those that seemed tasteless began to play with new colors.
The ability to savor is also very important.
To get pleasure from food and pleasure from aftertaste, you need much less food than in cases when you need something to eat.
Of course, there will be breakdowns. And any diet is not forever.
It is impossible to change the food system without changing your worldview.
And this is already a question from the field of psychology.
An unhealthy relationship with food requires a psychological study with a specialist.
