SWOT analysis is a method commonly used by businesses and companies to assess their strengths and weaknesses and external factors that may affect development. Actually, it is from these qualities that the abbreviation consists: Strengths (strengths), Weaknesses (weaknesses), Opportunities (opportunities) and Threats (threats).

And now you can prepare a piece of paper and a pencil, because we will try to analyze our own personalities and determine our abilities. This is a good exercise for those who are going to choose or change a profession, try something new or just get to know the person with whom they will live their whole life (themselves). And the most wonderful thing about it is that you can do it yourself, you can repeat it after a while and see how you have grown.

Step 1. So let's start with Strengths.

Write the answers to the questions:

What are you naturally good at?

What skills did you develop specifically?

What is your talent?

How well do you manage to establish contacts and connections?

What do other people think are your strengths?

What are your different values and ideas from others?

Be honest and don't be afraid to appear immodest. But the most important points on this list are the ones you write when answering the question “what makes me unique? What makes me different from others?"

Step 2. The next step is Weaknesses.

It is important to remember here that the search and formulation of weaknesses is not done in order to criticize yourself again - on the contrary, their clear formulation will help you better manage your development and growth.

Answer the questions:

What negative work habits and traits do you have?

Are there skills that need development or knowledge that need deepening?

What do other people see as your weaknesses?

What can you develop in?

What are you afraid or avoiding doing?

Step 3. For the list of Opportunities, we need to look at what external factors you can use to achieve your goals - it does not matter, personal or work.

Here you can ask yourself:

What is the state of the economy?

What skills and knowledge are more in demand in your field now?

Are there new requirements for the skills and abilities that you possess?

Is there a need (request) in your area that no one else is able to satisfy?

What conferences, courses, education are available to you now?

Step 4. Go back to your list of strengths. Evaluate them now in terms of how and how open they are to development.

Step 5. Review the list of weaknesses. Can you find a way to correct or even eliminate them?

Step 6. Threats that may arise in relation to your career or life goals.

How can your weaknesses prevent you from achieving your goals?

Is the industry changing?

Is there high competition in the areas for which you are best suited?

What is the biggest external threat to your plans?

What professional standards do you not yet meet?

Are there new technologies, conditions and requirements that might hinder progress?

You now have a list of all the answers. What's next? Next, we develop the strategy by COMPARING or TRANSFORMING.

COMPARISON means comparing two categories in such a way that answers to questions about where to go next appear.

For example, matching strengths and opportunities shows us where and how we can be most active. Comparison of weaknesses and threats, on the contrary, will show which situations and challenges are best avoided.

TRANSFORMATION is a way of turning weaknesses into strengths, weaknesses into strengths and threats into opportunities. For example, your weak point is experiencing “little things”; you easily build worst-case scenarios and this picture prevents you from moving forward. If you let yourself see that there is something in it that can be used as a strength, you will find that you have the ability to identify risks and be careful. Sensitivity in dealing with people can be used as a high level of empathy, and aggressiveness can help to stay energetic.
