In his book "New Earth", Eckhart Tolle wrote that the Pain Body is a clot of old emotional pain that a person carries in his energy field due to the tendency to retain old emotions in memory forever.
It is like a sack into which undissolved and unconscious "leftovers" fall from each, I emphasize, from each unpleasant situation, after which at least a little bitterness remains.
If you often had to deal with mental pain as a child, the bag can be huge. Sometimes it is so large that the parts responsible for joy in life, for creative realization, for moving forward are buried under this bag and cannot show themselves in any way.
E. Tolle also well described how the Pain Body loves to "feed":
“Any emotionally painful experience can be food for the Pain Body. This food contains energy that is compatible with his own, that is, it has frequencies in common with the Pain Body. This is why the Pain Body loves negative thoughts and gravitates towards the drama of human relationships. The Pain-Body is a morbid addiction to suffering."
The description of the Body of Pain is very similar to the description of holon according to W. Wolfe, holon according to F. Fanch. That is, the Pain Body is a thought form / grouping of a person's consciousness that manifests itself in a person's life as something whole and dynamic with its own characteristics in manifesting itself. In this case, it loves to suffer on its own and strive to stay close to the suffering of others.
If we digress from E. Tollet's terminology and consider which parts in a person roughly reflect the Pain Body, then I noticed several types of them, and they do not begin to appear immediately.
When we have already worked a little with the client on the relationship with mom and dad and traumas in childhood (and in psychotherapy this is the basis of the basics, and wherever you look at the very beginning of psychotherapy, we will go there anyway), a person may begin to realize that despite the fact that it becomes much easier to breathe, the sun is shining brighter, suddenly there is a feeling that there is no need to try to go further, it will still be bad. This is exactly the wonderful moment when you need to turn to this sensation face to face, and work with it.
What are the parts that "produce" these sensations?
1) "Skeptic".
Frequent part. May look like a lady - "blue stocking". She can be extremely categorical in her judgment: “The world is dangerous, changes are useless and dangerous. There shouldn't be any improvements and there can't be any improvements."
However, she may not be so categorical, but she will look at all the changes with a grin: “Let's see, we'll see,” she says. “You've already tried to change yourself, nothing happened.”
It is necessary to work with this part after some changes in psychotherapy, so that there is strength and the belief that she is not right. As a last resort, if the skeptic part does not believe in change, we define the part that does not want to suffer and wants to change. We strengthen it. We make it the main one.
2) "Web" / "Kikimora swamp"
These are the parts that make a person live in a quagmire. A quagmire of apathy and / or suffering.
They are visualized as something (web, labyrinth, swamp) or someone responsible for slow movement, sadness, sadness. This part can say with a sigh: “We didn’t live well, we don’t need to start”. The same part may strive to watch long drawn-out serials with many suffering heroes, programs about road accidents, read sad books.
The essence of this part is getting bogged down in apathy / suffering.
A part with which you sometimes have to work a lot. Because the alternative to this part is part of an active and joyful life. This part sometimes does not exist at all, so you first need to create it, and then give it priority over the part that drags into the quagmire.
3) "Frozen"
If the first two parts are still somehow active, then the part that is "frozen" practically does not move / sleeps / does not want to do anything / thinks that any movement is meaningless ("all the same, everyone will die").
Once upon a time a child who wanted to know the world, who rejoiced at the opportunity to create, was stopped by shouts: “don't do it”, “don't dare”, “it's dangerous”. As a result, a part was formed, the essence of which is in the program “don't live”. No, don’t die, but don’t live at the same time.
The psychotherapy of such a state is to start the movement of the part, remove the feeling of the danger of the world, and unleash the creative potential of the part.
Working with these parts is an extremely important step in long-term psychotherapy because they can become major obstacles to a successful life. But you shouldn't be afraid of this work. The main thing in psychotherapy is methodicalness.
