One of the most frequent requests of clients with whom I now meet is “to find, to understand yourself” … Behind simple outwardly words there is a lot of uncertainty, confusion, frustration, emptiness, ambiguity of the life path and purpose …

Indeed, it happens that you live and live, and suddenly you begin to realize that you do not know yourself at all, and that you do not want to understand …

Once I myself was in a similar situation, and I know that moving forward in this position is very, very difficult … It is useless to set goals, change habits, fight procrastination, if you do not know exactly what you want. If there is no inner feeling that you need it.

Of course, the best way to find yourself is to work with a specialist, one-on-one or in a group.

I want to share one technique that allows you to get to know yourself, study and understand yourself again.

This method is called "Observation Diary" … We will observe ourselves.

So, within 2 weeks (time for developing any habit and fixing it in our brain), I suggest you do the following:

Get yourself some kind of small notebook, a notebook in which to write down EVERY 2 hours:

1) What am I doing at this moment?

2) What am I living about now?

That is, you need to celebrate your daily affairs and the emotions that you experience, what you react to, what is important for you now …

If you withstand 2 weeks of such observations, you will be able to look at yourself in a new way, you will clearly see what your life consists of, how you plan your day, what your thoughts are doing, what moods and emotions prevail, what you devote time and energy to, what do you worry about and rejoice about …

This will be the first and very significant step towards finding yourself, realizing what is happening to you … Look at yourself as if from the outside … Note recurring moments, patterns, reactions to certain stimuli and people.

It is interesting to observe with what mood you wake up, with what you fall asleep … How often it changes in you … What do you react to … How sometimes emotions can change in response to some image or thought … or a headache begins, for example …

From my own and client experience, I can say that Observation Diary reveals a LOT of new things and is very sobering!)

In addition, in this way you will train yourself in the habit of automatically noting what you feel, what you think about, what is happening around you … That is, train your awareness, the ability to immerse yourself in the present moment!
