Our thinking is arranged in such a way that in crisis situations, a person's attention is directed to the past. At the same time, such memories in a crisis are not at all resource for a person, rather the opposite. If we represent this process in the form of a metaphor, then we get a big beam of a searchlight, which is directed into the past, while it does not illuminate either the present or the future.

The point here is that there is one very unpleasant aspect in crisis situations. The values that a person previously had are losing their relevance. This, of course, is not about eternal values, but about personal ones. That is, what previously attracted a person through life and in life no longer causes such feelings.

What a person previously considered pleasant, important, useful ceases to be such in reality for him. But it is always very difficult for a person to part with values that have lost their relevance. A crisis is primarily a change, an internal change in a person. The habit and unwillingness to give up past values can be not only harmful for a person, but even dangerous.

In such a situation, a person needs to discover new values for himself. If this condition is not met, the way out of the crisis can be delayed for a long time. Returning to the metaphor, the beam of the searchlight must be directed to the present. And there try to find something that can cause feelings of joy of gratitude to oneself.

If it is difficult to do this, then you can work with the meaning of the event that brought the person into a crisis situation. But here you need to be careful, because you should not consider the meaning of mistakes. It is very important. Meaning is what this or that process is filled with. Life is also a process and it can be filled with fear or joy, love or anger.

The past greatly influences the state of a person in a crisis situation. Moreover, the influence is negative, but if we put a different meaning in it, then the influence itself changes. And at the same time, new values begin to open up. Thus, by changing the meaning of what happened, we can change its influence. This helps to define and select already new values that will help a person in his development.

By and large, almost any crisis is also an opportunity for development. In order to discover or notice such opportunities, it is necessary to refuse to explain to oneself why this happened. Since there can be many reasons, even the discovery of all of them will not solve the problem of improving the emotional state of a person.

In my opinion, the meaning of what happened can be changed more easily if a person asks himself why did it happen … Then that very spotlight will be forced to look for answers, but not in the past, but in the present or in the future.

Thus, you can stabilize your standing in a crisis situation and not only stop the downward movement, but also begin to build a new foundation for your life.

Live with joy! Anton Chernykh.
