Motivation is a motivation for action, from the Latin word movere - to move. That is, finding motivation is finding something that will motivate you to action.

Motivation can be:

-internal (when you move yourself because you want to) and external (life gives a kick and makes you move);

-positive (like a carrot in front of a donkey's nose) and negative (a carrot on the back of the same donkey);

-sustainable (based on the needs of the person) and unstable (requiring reinforcement, because you didn't really want to).

But motivation doesn't give everyone movement. If we are talking about an irrational (he is also a chaotic, sloven, etc.), then it is not always possible to move him from his place. And no carrot in front of your nose (even the most desirable one), and even a strong kick with this very carrot can not help. It should be noted that the irrational is not a synonym for the word sloven (for those who do not know), but a psychological type characterized by a holistic and non-judgmental perception of the world. Due to their psychological characteristics, irrational people easily adapt to changes, impulsive and spontaneous, act according to their mood and often change plans. Irrational people can have problems with structure, organization, adherence to a daily routine and deadlines.

Irrational motivated people have a difficult relationship. After all, irrational people are prone to mood swings, their personal effectiveness depends on their inner emotional state. Therefore, motivational incentives, even very attractive ones, do not always work. In addition, if the motivation is too weak, its energy is not enough to “ignite” the creative irrational. And if the motivation is too strong, then it causes stress, affecting emotions and also nullifying all efforts. Motivation may or may not work. In order for it to work for an irrational, special, individual keys must be selected for it. Remember the vivid image of the "hungry artist" who creates for the sake of art, not for the sake of money.

Motivation and inspiration are often confused. Motivation is a conscious tool. It is like a button inside: it will work if you press it correctly. And inspiration is a specific emotional state, an inner light that miraculously lights up and can go out from the slightest breeze. It takes energy to keep motivated, but inspiration itself is a source of energy. The motivation of the irrational differs from the usual motivation: like inspiration, it comes through the "want", and not through the "must."

How can an irrational motivate himself?

1. Visualization

It is not just a visualization of the goal and the joy of receiving it. After all, this joyful moment is usually not so close and too short to motivate the irrational. Joy in the here and now is what may be the motivation in this case. You need to imagine the path to the goal, joy not only from the result, but also from the process, so that there is motivation to take up work not for the sake of the goal, but for the sake of joy and satisfaction from the work right now.

2. Overcoming

This is not about putting your "must" above your "want" for the sake of a goal. This usually does not work with an irrational. Therefore, overcoming should not be ordinary, but creative. For this, on the contrary, everything “must” must be turned into “I want”. How to do it? Just find in the case at least some "want" and focus on them. This is very motivating.

Let me give you an example. Once I decided to start getting up at 5 in the morning, although not nearly a morning person. At first, the motivation was to benefit the body and to increase the level of personal energy. But motivation did not work, apparently the desire to “do” oneself was not too strong. Apparently, this desire worked more, as "it should". I had to look for and “want” in my “must”: reading an interesting book in a mesmerizing pre-dawn silence in the company of delicious tea with honey. And this desire turned out to be stronger than the unwillingness to wake up early. This is how I learned to accomplish my overcomes creatively and to do what I “need” by finding “I want”.

3. Affirmation

By itself, repeating positive phrases like “I like my job” will not make you love the job or increase motivation. Taking the first affirmation that comes across would be too simple and ineffective.

First, you need to honestly answer the following questions:

- What do I like about what I am going to do?

- What will help me to achieve joy and pleasure in the process of work?

- What can I change in the process of preparing the case and during it in order to do it with pleasure?

Armed with the answers to these questions, you can write your own affirmations. Based on the foundation of these responses and amplified by your emotions, they will work more effectively.

The construction of phrases will be something like this:

- I want to do this because (name your reason - mission, goal, reason for joy in the process of work, etc.)

- I am happy to do (business), but it helps me in this (add something that gives joy and pleasure).

Read the affirmations every day, reinforcing them with emotion. This will help increase motivation and consolidate the connection "work-pleasure" in the subconscious.

4. Motivating stories

This motivational tool works especially well with irrational people. Reading biographies of famous people and motivating films creates a motivational mood. And mood is the jet fuel for the irrational.
