For some reason, it is considered strange to wear shoes one size smaller, but it is completely normal to continue working, ignoring fatigue, discontent, nagging from bosses and other inconveniences. It doesn't matter why you work: for the sake of your career, money or at the behest of your heart. You are at risk if you do not know how to correctly prioritize.

HOW TO UNDERSTAND THAT YOU HAVE FACED WITH BURNOUT

- Emotional burnout is one of the most common causes of depression. It arises from accumulated fatigue, chronic stress, psychological stress and dissatisfaction. In May 2019, experts from the World Health Organization included burnout "occupational syndrome" in the International Classification of Diseases. At the same time, 77% of the respondents in the American study answered that they experienced burnout at their current place of work. Stress affects both employees and top managers alike, causing a wide range of reactions, from complete apathy to increased anxiety. If you can hardly force yourself to crawl out from under the blanket, if the word “work” spoils your mood, if new projects are not encouraging, and communication with colleagues causes itchy skin, perhaps you do not need the sun and vitamins, but a change of landmarks and career consultant.

HOW TO NOT "BURN OUT" AT WORK

To prevent burnout from becoming your problem, you need to accept that you do not always have the strength to work, that you can get tired, stop living for work and start taking care of yourself. It's not as difficult as it sounds.

  1. Learn to balance your work and personal life. During a pandemic, when many people work from home, it becomes more difficult to separate professional and household chores. And yet it is necessary. Set aside a workspace for yourself, don't sit at your desk in your pajamas, don't eat at your computer, and take a break every few hours.
  2. Strive to be productive, not long. Set aside a specific time to complete a particular task, do not be distracted by social networks. And schedule time for relaxation: watching a movie, reading a book, walking the dog. By staying on schedule, you will avoid feeling guilty about wasting time.
  3. Prioritize. In any business, there are urgent tasks that require immediate execution and issues that can be postponed. Plan your time wisely. And do not hesitate to delegate those matters that do not require your personal involvement.
  4. Check your mail and messengers at a specially designated time - you can several times a day. Of course, there are situations when you need to constantly be in touch. More often than not, however, we are drawn into endless meetings and chat discussions that we can do without.
  5. It is believed that a condition for career advancement is constant presence at work. In fact, the ability to say no is equally appreciated. Don't be afraid to set your boundaries. Good planning and understanding your own value are important leadership skills. So whatever your project is, keep in mind that there is another life in addition to meetings in zoom.
  6. Perfectionism is the worst of evils because the ideal is unattainable. This does not mean, of course, that you can work carelessly. But you need to imagine the end goal and act calmly and methodically. The winner is the one who is able to competently and consistently do the job without panic or fear of making a mistake. Therefore, a rested and slept employee works more productively than a perfectionist who sat on a report all night.
  7. Set realistic goals and don't seek to take on more responsibility than you can handle. Otherwise, your bosses will not be satisfied with the result, and instead of a promotion, you will earn a nervous breakdown.
  8. Talk to your boss about a schedule that works for you. It doesn't matter if you are a freelancer or a full-time employee, modern technologies allow you to work at a comfortable pace without compromising the result. Someone easily wakes up at 6 in the morning, ready for new exploits, while others find it easier to create at night. This is where the online pandemic may be in your favor.
  9. Don't be afraid to dream. If you feel unbearable to work, reconsider your career plans. Perhaps you are not realizing your dream, but other people's expectations, and instead of creating rockets, you want to write music. There is nothing wrong with changing your project, place of work, direction, profession or place of residence. Even the most unusual hobby can be monetized if you approach the issue correctly. Success is achieved by people who do what they love and spend time primarily on things that bring them satisfaction.
  10. Feel free to ask the professionals for help. Career counselors, coaches, psychologists have the knowledge to help you build a roadmap for a successful career. There is no need to limit yourself to the tight framework of an unsightly reality if there is an opportunity to find a job to your liking.
