I want to share the exercise "Dialogue with the Sage", which is aimed at the client's awareness of himself.
When can you use it?
When a client becomes confused in a life situation, he is overcome by doubts or fears about any decisions.
At the beginning of the exercise, I usually lead the client's “competence saturation” through an introduction to the Dilts pyramid.
Why am I doing this?
To make it clear: my thoughts = my life. Each reality is individual and 10% of it is objective, and 90% are my fantasies. The task of each person to some extent is to get closer to objective reality. The main contradiction between a person and reality is that reality is constantly changing, moving forward, and a person strives for stability, but is forced to “catch up” with reality in order to develop in accordance with it.
Why is this exercise effective and how does it work? Firstly, every person has the answer to life's questions, but his mind prevents him from hearing it, conducting an internal dialogue with himself, the inculcated attitudes simply do not allow him to focus on himself and turn to his inner sage. Secondly, the intuitive answer is most often the most correct and desirable.
I ask the client to close their eyes, relax and respond without hesitation:
People are …
Life is…
The universe is
The continuation of these sentences shows what a person has inside, what he perceives the surrounding reality: aggressive, hostile, or vice versa.
It is built from the request with which the client came (How to act in a situation, what to do, etc.) Usually the client gives the answer that is desirable for him, but he is simply afraid to voice it to himself. For a psychologist, this gives an understanding of what he needs to work with, for example, to maintain a relationship or help to leave them.
I would be glad if this exercise helps someone else.
