Upon acquaintance with the peculiarities of the masochistic personality, her especially depressed life position makes a deep impression. Life is hard for a masochist, plans are often not implemented, you need to be careful in everything and under any circumstances. Although masochists are not always unhappy, they are never fully happy. Masochists are able to express some kind of positive feelings, but they do it without enthusiasm and this expression is rather formal. They are almost always busy, restrained and constantly careful with respect to the world.

Masochists can endure difficult life situations for a long time and at the same time be in good shape, not panic or despair. This is not to say that the masochist likes it, but he has long, long ago accepted that this is the way life is arranged and nothing can be done about it. The hope that things would be different had faded many years ago, and its renaissance would be unpleasant for the psychological balance he had endured. The masochist is conservative, does not believe in change and is wary of everything new. The masochist does not sing about his life, he can admit that things are bad, but, admitting this, he immediately adds: "But it could be even worse." An almost mechanical reaction to any proposal for change is statements like: "This will not work," "Something is wrong here," "This is unsafe," "This has already happened and has not led to anything."

Another characteristic feature of the masochistic character is the effort to be good, to be good always, to everything and in everything. This is his most important scenario decision, when he surrendered under pressure and abandoned the struggle for independence. Of course, this effort to be good contains a fear of doing something wrong, and a fear of punishment, which is rooted in the past. This scenario setting underlies the conformism often observed in masochism, pushing oneself aside, submission and joining the majority. Of course, a masochistic person can fall into collisions that are difficult for its characteristics, since it is often necessary to take some position, to be on some side, which is extremely difficult for a masochist - after all, he needs to be good for everyone, if he chooses a position he becomes bad for someone, which is extremely difficult for such a person. Therefore, it is very difficult to achieve anything definite from a masochist; he is most comfortable in the field of neutrality or to follow the majority. From this, the conclusion is obvious that the side on which the masochist turns out to be lucky, since it has an excellent performer at its disposal, on which you can load anything and in any quantity; the more the masochist pulls on his neck, the safer he is, his main scenario setting is realized - he is good, he avoids punishment.

Contacts of a masochistic personality are superficial; contact with a masochist brings boredom and some degree of tension to the interlocutor. This happens due to the fact that the masochist is overly careful about contact with another person, his energy is at a very low level, such an emotion that makes a person a pleasant interlocutor as an interest in another is absent in the masochist, instead of a pleasant and casual conversation from contact with a masochist appears the feeling of being immersed in a quagmire. By and large, a masochist needs few people, and he does little, which is called from the heart, his main task is to avoid punishment for badness and be good. Therefore, some people such "goodness" can irritate and repel from closer communication. On a conscious level, the masochist considers himself to be a good, well-intentioned, yet used, underestimated, unhappy victim.

Masochism is also characterized by the conviction, not necessarily conscious, but also not necessarily unconscious, that pleasure is bad, sinful, something that cannot be trusted. Excessive morality and / or religiosity can be a manifestation of this conviction. Reflection of masochistic features is also in the body - in the form of deeply "imprinted" restraint and blocking all experiences associated with pleasure.

There is no doubt that the spirit of the masochist is broken, however, there is no doubt that the human spirit cannot be destroyed. Attempts to completely destroy him simply drive him into a psychic refuge, in which the masochist can wait for a very long time and from which he can suddenly pounce, filled with a thirst for revenge.
