Good afternoon dear friends!
Continuing with my series of mixes about therapeutic work, I publish my ninth article today.
Please share your knowledge and experience!
- if we understand that the client is idealizing us, then we can tell him (as an option) something like this: you seem to be idealizing me now. Maybe you want to protect from another part of you, which doubts me, can devalue something? Here, if all this is confirmed, you can work in the same way as with the polarities, which I spoke about in previous articles;
- if the client previously failed to express his aggression to someone (not the therapist), and in the experiment, in a conversation with an imaginary person, he managed to say something, but somehow not clearly, quietly, indistinctly, then we can suggest saying loud and confident. Then you can ask what was the difference for the client, which option evokes what feelings;
- if the client has discovered some kind of fear, then it is important to give him time to be in this fear, not to rush. It is important to ask: How do you experience it? All this is necessary so that the inner “child”, the frightened “child” of the client could start to leave himself out of fear. There is no need to immediately drag the client somewhere, to raise him. You do not need to immediately learn to express anger and so on in this moment. All this can only be the desire of the therapist to get out of fear. Maybe the therapist himself is afraid here;
- if for the client (man) all or many decisions were made by women (mother, grandmother, wife …), such as: the choice of a university, or even the choice of a psychologist, then most likely one can expect that the male identity is not developed, and from this anxiety is present in life. For example, in working with a male therapist, this identity can be formed. Perhaps a woman can help here. What do you think. And so, as far as I know, only a man can initiate a man, that is, confirm that he has become a man. Although, I think, not everything is as simple as I described here:) Here, by the way, it may be therapeutic to suggest the client to choose a therapist himself, and so that he would go to him for further therapy. This will be very therapeutic.
I'll stop for now.
See you!
