There are many opinions regarding gambling addiction, gambling addiction - some say that games improve reaction, increase the speed of decision-making, improve communication skills in the case of online games, develop logic, teach long-term planning (depending on the genre) and patience in achieving goals; others are sure that "he will play enough and will kill people."

Often, there is no dependence on games that really develop logic, reaction speed, give some knowledge. In addition, if a person plays a game for half an hour or an hour a day, addiction does not arise either. As for children, in an empathic family that is emotionally involved in a child's life, he throws away his tablet or phone and asks mom, dad, grandmother to play with him. If this happens in the family, then the games will not be interesting either.

What is the danger of games? In a person, the brain begins to work in a completely different way - the nerve centers are overstimulated, after which everyday life becomes no longer interesting for him. In other words, overstimulation leads to a completely different level of perception, life, and overall pleasure. For example, you drink tea every day with two tablespoons of sugar (this is the norm for you), but if you pour 5 tablespoons of sugar, the tea will be very sweet, and without sugar, it is not at all sweet. At the level of chemical processes, gambling addiction is equated with drug addiction, and over-stimulation reaches such a level that 20 tablespoons of sugar will become the norm for you, but five will not be enough. Moreover, it will be tasteless, uninteresting and bland. If we look at the example of life, a person who is stuck in games so much that his whole life is there will experience sheer boredom on a date and will not be able to build a relationship. For him, all real life will be reduced to ordinary work, ordinary relationships, ordinary friends, and the main drive will be in the game. This is an adrenaline addiction to the flurry of emotions that are there. Quite often, addiction is tied not so much to the joy and enjoyment of achieving the desired goal in the game, but to the amount of suffering in it. The more suffering, the more pleasure, and because of this addiction arises.

Who can become a gambling addict? Often these are people who did not receive an emotional response in childhood, quite empathic, sensitive, with "thin skin", feeling all the family's offenses. Among gambling addicts, as well as among drug addicts, there is a very common phenomenon - the family is quite calm, but everyone is in himself, everyone is angry with someone, experiences passive aggression. The life of such people is rather dull (they do not hear me at all, they do not understand me), therefore they go into the game to compensate for the brightness, here we are on the same wavelength, here you can merge aggression, they will not be condemned for this, as relatives do, on the contrary, they will understand, support, joke, praise, appreciate (accordingly, a person gets a thrill from the game). As a rule, drug addicts and gambling addicts do not kill, they are more likely to lead themselves to suicide, but alcoholics can kill. If the family is quite calm, there were no bright scandals and alcohol, fights, people go into alcohol addiction.

What to do? First, ask yourself what you really don't like about your real life, which influences and makes you immerse yourself in games so much. In fact, this behavior is a departure from reality, an attempt to replace one's present with a game. The second step is to learn how to find pleasure in life, but you cannot do this on your own, you need to contact a psychotherapist. The question is quite serious, and you will need help and support to return yourself to reality and show real success in life, not in the game.

People for whom the whole life, drive, adrenaline, all possible affects are in the game, as a rule, do not know how to achieve anything in life. Can some games really teach us long-term planning? No - in the game all the results are achieved very quickly (a day, two, maximum a month, and you will achieve significant results, you will receive “a million valuable kopecks” for which you can buy everything you want). In life, everything is different - it will take a lot of patience to achieve the desired goals.

Gamblers have a big problem with patience, they cannot take small steps and at the same time not see the result right away, they are not able to wait long - a year, two, ten, twenty. It is in this place that we get a failure - people who are addicted to games do not know how to plan long-term (there are exceptions, but it will still be quite difficult for them to go towards their goal). Why is this happening? In fact, the psyche remained at the age of 3-5 years. Often, children just at this age go into the game, because here self-worth, the core of the ego, the ability to emotionally mirror is formed here, an emotional connection with parents is strengthened. If all this is not there, the child, without knowing himself, without feeling anything, without forming an intrinsic value, tries to "get" all this through games.

How to get rid of gambling addiction?

  1. Admit that you have this problem.
  2. Limit yourself, it is better to completely exclude games from your life. And until you achieve something real in life, do not allow yourself to play.

  3. Set goals - it is important to have substitutions for games and other interests in life. Make a quest out of your life.
  4. See a psychotherapist. Why is therapy important? The gambler remains at an early level of development, it will be quite difficult for him to perceive life from the perspective of black and white, all or nothing. Accordingly, it will be difficult to climb the steps higher, there will be a feeling that it is a rock (it is not clear what you can grab onto, and in general - will I be able to climb to the very top?). People with gambling addiction have to put in a huge amount of effort, often overwhelming for their body and psyche. That is why constant support is needed (“Yes, you’re doing everything right! Yes, you’re not feeling very well now, you don’t feel the buzz, but wait a little longer, and you will see the first results, you will start to feel pleasure”). Here it is important for a person to understand that there will be no buzz - the reality is rather boring, monotonous, in places swampy and complex, but in the end you get real results. The moment a gambler feels the emotional difference between real results and his gaming achievements, he will enjoy a completely different level (quieter, calmer and healthier). In addition, this person really needs emotional support, feedback, mirroring - all this can only be obtained in psychotherapy.
  5. There are support groups anonymous (analogous to Alcoholics Anonymous). You can find such groups and attend them, preferably in conjunction - a group and a psychotherapist.

And remember, if you admit your problem - this is 50% of success!
