Paternal identity - a complex personality structure, the formation of which is significantly determined by the individual characteristics of a man and the specific situation of his family space.
Paternal identity - This is the awareness of oneself as a father, the acceptance of this social role and the acceptance of a man as a father by significant people.
The process of establishing paternal identity includes the following periods:
1) pre-actualization (begins with the birth of a boy and ends when his wife (girlfriend) becomes pregnant;
2) transitional (pregnancy period);
3) updating (from the birth of a child and throughout the life of a man).
Paternity, in particular paternal identity, refers to those problematic aspects of psychology that are difficult to study only with the help of verbal methods of psychodiagnostics.
Therefore, as an additional tool, I recommend using the projective method, which allows a deeper and more comprehensive study of these features.
Projective expressive technique « Family sociogram ”(Authors: E. Eidemiller, A. Chemerisin) is just that effective tool that will help determine the position of a man in the system of the parental and / or his own family, interpersonal relationships in the family, the nature of communications in the family.
This technique allows us to make assumptions about the possible prospects for the development of paternal identity, since this process is not static, but dynamic.
The use of the technique allows for a short period of time to see the features of the interaction between family members, the man's place in it and to make an objective interpretation of the father's position in the family space.
The respondents are offered a blank with a drawn circle (110 mm in diameter) with the instruction: “There is a circle in front of you on the sheet. Draw in it yourself and your family members in the form of circles and label them with their names."
The evaluation of the results is carried out according to such criteria.
Number of family members, who got in plane of the circle … The number of family members drawn is compared with the actual number of family members. It may happen that the family member with whom the subject of the study is in conflict does not fall into the big circle (he is either outside the circle, or not drawn at all). It happens that some of the strangers (or animals) can be portrayed as family members.
The size of the rings … The larger, in comparison with others, the circle "I" indicates sufficient / overestimated self-esteem, the smaller - on underestimated. The size of the circles of family members indicates their importance to the person being researched.
Relative arrangement of circles … The position of a man of his circle in the center of the test field indicates an egocentric orientation of the personality, and the position of himself below, to the side of other family members, indicates the experience of emotional alienation.
At the same time, he will draw the most significant family members in the form of large circles in the center or at the top of the test field.
Distance between figures … The remoteness of one circle from others may indicate conflicting relationships in the family. And "sticking" (when the rings are literally superimposed on each other) indicates the presence of symbiotic bonds between family members.
In addition to these formal criteria, there are also substantive criteria for interpretation. I will talk about them in detail in the next article. I will also give examples of the interpretation of sociograms.

In addition to formal criteria for the interpretation of sociograms, it is recommended to use and meaningful criteria , which were developed by Ukrainian psychologists Miroslava Gasiuk and Galina Shevchuk. I would like to note that in order to fully interpret the results of the "
