Many have probably heard the opinion that if you get into the “wrong company”, then you will definitely start drinking, smoking, injecting drugs, and so on. And this is not entirely true. Rather, a person meets with such people and such companies, since he already has a certain predisposition to addiction. Yes, addiction may not appear. And sometimes she just has no chance not to appear.

It is always worth considering the biological characteristics of a person, the social environment, and most importantly, the psychological factor. Not everyone who grew up in a criminal area became criminals. Unfortunately, not everyone who grew up in a prosperous social environment became law-abiding and successful. True, there are addictions that are much less condemned (and some are even encouraged): workaholism, shopaholism, gadget addiction, food addiction. But, probably, sex addiction is the least talked about in society, since it is a rather intimate and, for some, shameful topic.

When does addiction begin? Obviously before the conscious age. Our childhood has such a strong influence on our lives that many things are born there. Parents and important adults play the very first role in our development. And how exactly they will help or hinder (often unconsciously) to go from complete dependence (in infancy we are completely dependent on the mother) to complete independence and depends on how much we learn to have a healthy attitude towards ourselves and those around us. By a healthy attitude towards myself, I mean the ability to have pleasure (namely, to satisfy needs and our psyche seeks) in a way that does not destroy itself. After all, being a successful chef is much more enjoyable than being significantly overweight and uncontrollably absorbing sweets.

The ability to explore the world, learn new things and take reasonable risks is quite normal. We acquire these skills in the first period of our life. If the mom supports and approves of the baby, maintains a balance between safety and the desire to explore everything, everything will go relatively well. Why relatively? Because there are so few completely healthy psychologically people that they can be neglected in statistics. Most of us are relatively healthy. Yes, we have features, but we have learned to live with it.

If there is no balance in the relationship between the child and the parents, but there is a bias in the direction of parental aloofness or a bias in the direction of excessive guardianship, then the child cannot normally adapt to the world. And then something necessary to compensate for this. And withdrawal depending on it is not uncommon in this case.
