In modern literature, pathological psychological addictions are usually divided into 2 large groups - chemical and emotional. The main components of the first are drug addiction, alcoholism, smoking, substance abuse. All addictions are based on a person's desire to satisfy certain (certain, often unconscious) needs. Thus, he finds a way to fill the "missing" part of himself, gets satisfaction, relief, relieves stress, gets away from stress. But this is not always the case. Over time, the positive effects of such replacement activity turn into negative ones. A person can no longer exist without an object of dependence, he becomes more and more apathetic, irritable, sad, depressed, insecure, "empty", experiencing psychological and physical suffering in the absence of it. As a result, a person finds himself in a vicious circle, from which it is often not easy to get out of it without outside help.
The type of addict
To understand who tends to fall into addictions, we should turn to the underlying causes of the latter. The problem of attraction disorders begins in early childhood. The strongest dependence of a person falls on the first stage of his psychosexual development (oral phase, according to Freud), when he is completely dependent on his mother. At the age of 1, 5 years, the child does not understand the special difference between himself and the mother, they constitute a single organism, a continuation of each other, are in symbiosis. At this time, an emotional acceptance of oneself, basic trust in others and the world is formed. The psychological trauma received at this stage can play a very important role in the formation of a dependent personality. Not receiving enough love, care, attention and care, a "hole" can form in the subtle mental organization of a person, which he will try to fill with something else for the rest of his life.
But the process of disconnecting a child from his parents does not end at 1, 5 years. Basically, it lasts until the end of adolescence. Therefore, upbringing also plays a very important role. There are three types of parenting behavior that can contribute to the formation of a dependent personality.
The first is overprotective. Loving parents, of course, with the best of intentions, sometimes go too far. The child never learns to separate from them and is not able to build clear boundaries of his "I". The child's irritation level is growing and can reach critical levels. As a result, a sudden forced exit of a child from such a co-dependent relationship is possible, which is accompanied by trauma and a high risk of falling into another addiction.
The second variant of destructive upbringing is ignoring, or physical violence. Children growing up in such conditions do not receive proper emotional support, they do not know how to understand their feelings, are in constant tension and stress, cannot find a way out for their negative emotions and release, which is a favorable background for the formation of addictions.
And, finally, children who grew up in families of dependent parents are at risk. After all, we all learn life, looking at our parents and significant people, and their behavior is a very important factor that has a huge impact on us.
How to get rid of addiction
There are three important stages on the path to freedom from addiction:
- The desire to do this plays a fundamental role. After all, if a person does not want to get rid of addiction, then no medication and psychotherapeutic interventions will help him.
- Determine the reason. It is important to understand what need is replaced by addiction, what exactly we get, thanks to our additive behavior. Each dependency has its own function, by defining which we can figure out how to get what we want in another way.
- Take responsibility. Realize that additive behavior is a consequence of your personal choices, not the result of circumstances. A person makes thousands of choices every minute of his life, and is responsible for each of them.
Of course, these three points are not a panacea and a solution to all problems in the fight against addiction, but they can point the right direction on this long journey of ups and downs that will lead you to freedom.
