Crowd or personality? Conformity or nonconformism? To swim or not to swim? People ask the same questions, they are spinning in their heads, raising silt from the bottom of the sludge pit of the collective unconscious. The same answers, the same consequences, and all the same conclusions. To be or not to be oneself, to stand out from the crowd or merge with it in a single ecstasy of collective irresponsibility and a single burst of imaginary greatness. How to be an individual in an era of total striving for uniformity in such a globally identical world.

People tend to be different and they tend to be endowed with various talents, and how people can realize these talents of theirs in society, how much they can resist the pressure of the faceless crowd, is that grain of individual happiness, wrapped in the guise of personal success. In fact, without facelessness there can be no individuality, and vice versa. Just as the sunset pleases our eyes, so does someone's mediocrity, highlight the beauty of the radiance of unusual people. The only problem is that, like the sun, such people are extremely difficult to control. Evolution and development is built by the actions and ideas of extraordinary people, whose views frighten the majority of those who are used to living in an equally lit room. Delight and envy live side by side and it is very difficult to resist the temptation to manage an obedient and identical herd, and so frightening and straining is the loss of control over persons we do not understand.

For many centuries, the idea of control has been honed and developed, adjusted to the existing reality, and it has always remained the same in its essence. From Plato, through Machiavelli to modern times, it is the same everywhere. If we look at the “laws of Jante”, which constitute the ideological essence of Scandinavian society, then at its basis we will see an irreconcilable enmity between the gray philistine insignificance and the slightest hint of a wild naive individuality. To be like everyone else, not to stand out, to be one whole. This is the concept of a “crowd” that has resurrected in reality, where everything and everything is nullified, where there is no way out of the labyrinth of everyday life, where Groundhog Day is just an entry into the main course of nothingness.

An interesting excursion into history leads us to the social phenomenon "Tall Poppy Syndrome", which tells us about how one ruler asked a sage for advice on the best form of government in the polis, and he, as an answer, without saying a word, walked across the field ears that rise above the rest of the field. And of course, we will find a lot of examples that are not so distant in time perspective, when the rulers used the advice of this sage destroying the entire flower of the nation, cutting off the ears with the largest number of grains. The authorities squint with an invisible scythe everything that goes beyond the parameters of the accepted development standards, pulling out the embryos of dissent by the roots. Editing differently is extremely risky and extremely energy consuming. The crowds and masses described and investigated by Moskovichi and Le Bon, analyzed by Canetti and Freud, in spite of everything, came to power. Power is impersonal and immoral, devoid of any culture of power, and endowed with only the instinct of self-preservation. This power was integrated into our society by ourselves, and it is we, as part of this power of the faceless crowd, who share its "avarice of understanding life." Less and less science and more and more pathos. The horizons are wider and there is less and less opportunity to see the gap between the houses. The change of power is ever faster and there are fewer and fewer differences among the replacements. Gradually, we are presented with reality as reality, and this is so real that there are fewer and fewer people who understand this.

How to live and what to do with your uniqueness? How to understand that you are really unique, and not that, this is just your illusion, your expressed mourning for the lost ability to become ONE surrounded by many. And is this possible in principle ?! Maybe the author of the “Jante Law” Axel Sandemuse just wrote something that everyone cannot believe in any way. Maybe this is our reality and our desire to stand out and be at the top, is it just an illusion of a schizophrenic, just our psychological defense from this so real reality? It is possible that the collective unconscious is our awareness, and it is this that determines our age-old dilemma "to be or not to be".

Probably, these two systems will exist side by side, feeding each other with motivational material. Probably, we will continue to try to break out of the ordinary in order to then find peace on the sleepy shore of the sea of oblivion.
