Decision-making levels, or how a person is programmed

I propose to consider the entire human psyche as a nesting doll.

So, the deepest inner level of the psyche is instinct level … The basic instincts are survival and reproduction. During a danger to life, the following instincts are triggered: run away, hide, freeze or attack. What kind of method to use in stressful situations, the child initially adopts from his ancestors and from the adults around him. But this is not the final version. During times of extreme emotional stress associated with danger to life, the work of the left rational hemisphere of the brain is inhibited by the strongest emotion emanating from the right hemisphere. And then instincts come to the fore - to run away, hide, attack or freeze. If you managed to avoid danger to life by running away, for example, then at the moment of liberation from danger, a huge amount of endorphin will be thrown into the bloodstream, and this is the strongest natural drug! This drug will immediately cause a strong positive emotion, and the person will receive a "carrot" for the work done - escape. In the future, with any emerging danger, this person will unconsciously strive to run away, to get away from the problem.

Each of us has our own basic instinct. If, during a severe danger, your legs seem to go numb, and you simply cannot move, then your basic instinct is to freeze. If, on the contrary, there is sharp excitement and you want to run somewhere, then your instinct is to run away. If you want to sit down and cover yourself with your hands, then your main instinct is to hide. If aggression appears, then your instinct is to attack and defend. I noticed that left-brain people usually have instincts to run and attack, while right-brain people tend to hide and freeze.

We will work with the level of instincts when it becomes necessary to change a person's behavior. For example, if a person “hides” from problems, does not solve them, the instinct to “hide” will need to be changed in deep hypnosis to the opposite - not to hide, but to start solving their problems.

The next level of the psyche- the level of unconscious thinking. This nesting doll envelops and protects the smallest nesting doll "instinct". At this level, those installation programs that will ensure survival and reproduction are accumulated and fixed. In fact, conclusions are stored here on how to behave in what vital situations. This experience begins to accumulate from intrauterine development and continues to accumulate throughout life. For further work, it is important to understand how the received information is formed and stored at this level, as well as why one information is sent to the storage for further use, and the other is not.

So, in order for the information coming from the outside to be fixed at this level, it is necessary that it be passed into the storage by the “guardian of consciousness” - the left critical hemisphere of the brain. The younger the child, the less critical programs he has “what is right and what is wrong,” therefore information slips into the unconscious very simply. That is why such a high level of learning in childhood, and therefore the basic programs of behavior we acquire in childhood (as proved by Sigmund Freud). With age, more and more people begin to analyze, using the knowledge already acquired in the process of life. More and more, the left, analyzing and criticizing hemisphere is strengthening its work. Therefore, with age, it is more and more difficult to get new information into the storage of the unconscious. In the end, the only possible way to get into is the trance state, when the left hemisphere turns off its work for a while.

All information that has got into the storage of unconscious programs is marked by us according to the principle of "stick" and "carrot". That is, we unconsciously choose ways of action that will either bring us closer to the "carrot" - survival and reproduction, or move us away from the "stick" - death and childlessness.

… And everything would be fine if only useful installation programs got into the unconscious. The problem is that anything can get there. And it gets …

The first, negative attitudes, a person can receive even during intrauterine development and childbirth. The most common problem is the cord entanglement with suffocation. It turns out that in moments of struggle for life, instincts are strongly activated, and a very strong sexual arousal occurs in the struggle for life. The first negative program is laid in the unconscious: in order to get strong sexual arousal, one needs to strangle oneself (and this is how a masochist is "born"), or another (the association of oneself with the object of strangulation is triggered - this is the path of the sadist). The most difficult option is an unconscious desire to hang or hang …

Well, here a person was born and begins to absorb all the information received from the outside. The child learns how to behave in society from his parents and those people who surround him. Children literally copy the behavior of adults. And they copy everything indiscriminately - both good habits and bad ones. The copied information is sent straight to the unconscious and becomes the basic program of behavior. Not only the observed external behavior of adults is copied, but also what adults say about the child himself, how they respond about him. If the mother constantly repeats to her son that he is the best, the most beloved, then she will lay a program for her son in the future to choose for close communication those people who will appreciate and love him. Otherwise, with the suggested program “you are bad, I don’t love you,” the boy will unconsciously choose people as friends, as wives, who will consider him insignificant, who will not love him, but will only use him.

In addition to the programs received from parents, often negative programs are received during times of severe emotional stress, at times of danger to life. It is these situations that give rise to phobias, fears, panic attacks, neuroses. Let's consider their mechanism of occurrence.

Example. A girl walks home late at night, went into the entrance. Suddenly, unexpectedly, an unknown person attacks her from behind, immobilizes her and rapes her … The girl survived, but … Here are the possible negative versions of the resulting installation program:

  1. Fear of the dark - every time, being alone in a dark place, there is an unreasonable terrible fear.
  2. Psychosexual disorders, various - from frigidity to excitement only during violence against oneself.
  3. Due to the inability to understand the reasons for what has happened, "non-digestion" of the situation, there may be problems with the gastrointestinal tract - gastrointestinal tract (psychosomatics)
  4. Perhaps the appearance of a phobia - fear of a closed space - claustrophobia (if raped in a small room), or fear of open space - agarophobia (if raped in an open space). If the man who raped was, for example, bald, then fear of all bald men may appear …

You can go on and on to list the possible negative programs and the consequences of this situation. It is important to understand the very mechanism of the installation. During times of extreme emotional stress associated with danger to life, the work of the left rational hemisphere of the brain is inhibited by the strongest emotion emanating from the right hemisphere. And then direct access to the unconscious opens. Everything seen, heard and felt, plus the way of resolving this situation (used instinct) at that moment is sent for storage in the unconscious. Since you were able to survive in this life-threatening situation, this experience becomes invaluable to you. In the future, if a situation happens to you that is somewhat reminiscent of what has already been experienced, then your unconscious immediately, instantly, without hesitation, will give you a ready-made decision on how to behave and what to do.

Our unconscious can be compared to a personal bank of information on how, without hesitation, to behave in various life situations in order to survive and reproduce.

The third level is level of consciousness … This is the level of interaction with the outside world. How do we understand reality? Awareness goes through reading information from the senses, and then comparing it with previously experienced moments. While nothing threatens life and well-being, the psyche works as usual (the usual state of consciousness). But as soon as a life-threatening situation arises, there is a lightning-fast switching of consciousness into a trance mode with the ability to use all the resources that are at the unconscious level of the psyche. At this moment, the blockage of the left thinking and reasoning hemisphere occurs due to the splash of strong emotions from the right hemisphere.

Conclusion: human behavior is governed by the following levels of decision making

  • instinctive level

  • unconscious level

  • conscious level
