Lecture by Alfried Langle, Doctor of Medicine and Psychology, on the practical use of existential analysis to gain an inner core, confidence, and meaningful existence

“Life is nothing

life is an opportunity to do something"

V. Frankl

Today I will tell you about the prerequisites that allow us to live full of life, and we will also touch on the theory of existential analysis. You will get ideas on how you can practically get along with your own life.

However, we will start with what is existential analysis? Existence means I … Each of us existences and each of us has experience. Analysis means that I want to know how this happens. We want to investigate what are the prerequisites that would help me, entirely to be here (exist). What do I need to be with me in this world?

I was born and therefore I want to truly be here, not just superficially or functioning, but really as Me, and there is a very big task in this, this task we have been doing our whole life. And all this is not self-evident.

We are born free to a certain extent, but it is not enough just to be born in order to realize ourselves, embrace, understand and bring into this world.

So that I can say that it is important for me that I have come to something, I struggle with difficulties, I experience my relationship, my love, so that I can be free from my parents, I can be independent and can cope with my fear and shame. To do this, it is required (or needed) of me simply exist … My mother gave birth to me and that means - now live on your own. You already have a sufficient condition to be able to live, all you have to do is grasp this idea and be yourself in your life.

How can this become a reality? What prerequisites can be fulfilled for me to be truly myself?

Existential analysis deals with such premises so that I can truly exist for filled life … When I am really here and I am myself, then I really feel that I am saturated with life. For this, life develops me and gives me something that allows me to get pleasure from my life. And when I cannot be myself, my life is empty. I do not know what I live for and what is good for me.

The central thought of existential psychology and philosophy: "I am not just here (I am)." But in order to exist, my decision is required, I must really desire to exist, and this requires my inner "Yes". So that I can become aware of myself and make an exchange with other people and the world. This is the task of existential psychology. Help other people or help myself to live with the inner harmony of what I do (why I exist).

Inner agreement means that I have to feel what I am doing. This manifests itself in small and large deeds. For example, tonight and we are all here, and if I have an inner consent for that, and then I not only know, but also feel that “Yes, I want it to be so. I do not have to sit or stand there, I do not feel obligated, I feel free, because the inner consent tells me - Yes!”. And if I think so, then this feeling becomes - conscious. It is important that I feel it, I am here and I like it. This tells me - that, Yes - I have an inner agreement. This thought is central.

With this term - living with inner harmony, we can describe the essence of existential analysis. It works for both big and small. Do I have internal consent for my profession? Do I say to myself "Yes" about education, training? In my relationship, life?

If I live this way, I experience this, then this position becomes existential.

I live, day after day, year after year, and how does this fit in with my inner consent?

The criterion for a whole life is that I really get something. The fact that I receive something, from when I live with the feeling - "Yes, I give it" and I can feel how good it is that I am. And if I have a problem with my partner, I can say "Yes", there is a problem and we will work with it. And when I feel "Yes" in what I do, life gives me something in return. Sometimes I experience joy and happiness. I'm worried about the value that it's great that we can solve the problem together.

When I have a feeling that I live fulfilled, then I live with inner harmony. And when I feel emptiness, then I lack the inner essence, my consent, my “Yes”.

If you just take from tonight that I have to take myself and what I feel and do seriously, and if, in something I do not have an internal agreement, then I try to somehow change the circumstances in order to get this consent. And if I do this, then life will receive a new emphasis, emphasis, meaning. And this accent will be my inner essence. And then I will become the center (foundation) of my life. I cannot be happy without myself. And with the help of inner consent, I bring myself into life, and without this my I does not exist. I just function, I live superficially, but I really am not here. In a sense, I died.

Existential analysis describes how we can obtain inner agreement. This requires the mobilization of two different directions. To begin with, we need a support, in constructive language, bearing the structure of existence. For example, when we are building a high-rise building, we need steel structures. And this supporting structure for existential analysis is fundamental motivations … The second thing we need is the presence forcesto work on those problems that are.

For example, you may not have the courage to discuss conflict with your partner. Or I don’t know how to start the process of change so as not to lose myself in it.

We use client dynamics and existential analysis (EA) to assist with existential analysis. We define EA as femenological personal psychotherapy. We are interested in the individual - Person. And we try to approach femenologically what is really important for this person. This means that we look at what the person is showing us, and do not look at what we know. Femenologically to work means that when we approach a situation, we open up and look at what is in it. We allow it to influence (influence) us. And this is completely subjective to me. No objectification, only subjectivation. In EA, we do not follow the theory, we are engaged in a dialogue, what clients convey to us, say, show - this interests us. Not what we think might be beneficial to the client, but what they say, what they suffer from, and what they know about their resources. Through this professional process, we follow the goal of living our lives free. So that our senses are dynamic and can move freely depending on the situation, which allows us to take an authentic position. So that we can approach the situation (life) responsibly. As a result, EA strives to strengthen and strengthen personal styles so that a person can act like a Person. To fully understand this, we need knowledge of the theory.
