Along with organic and hereditary causes, psychological problems often contribute to gaining excess weight. Therefore, it can be so difficult to change your eating habits and it is not enough just to start going to the gym. A person is a combination of soul and body, and while working on weight loss, it is necessary to pay attention to both improving the body according to the recommendations of a nutritionist, and his psycho-emotional state and cooperation with a psychologist.
Psychological reasons preventing weight loss:
1. Family stereotypes. We adopt from the parental family and carry into our adult life the attitude towards food. And it can be very different: "you have to finish everything to the crumb …", "the child must always be full …", "you cannot be hungry, you have to eat everything even if you don’t like it or don’t want to …". Similar messages are probably familiar to many from childhood, they can provoke in us eating disorders and, as a result, excess weight.
2. We seize stress and difficult experiences. Against the background of fears, depression, anxiety, we can experience a constant feeling of hunger. In an attempt to reduce stress, and feel sorry for ourselves, we begin to seize fat and sweet, well, with whatever comes to hand. And we get a plump figure, discomfort, complete dissatisfaction and a desire to immediately seize everything again. All this causes even more difficult experiences: anger towards oneself, a feeling of one's own powerlessness, fear of rejection, envy of others, and shame poisoning the soul, which is impossible to talk about, and a feeling of one's own rejection (one cannot be like that).
3. Terribly beautiful. In pursuit of standards and in conditions of an inability to accept oneself and a constant striving for perfection, anorexia (conscious fasting) and bulimia (overeating, followed by conscious disposal of food) can develop. Both cases require both psychotherapeutic and medical care.
4. Self-punishment. When we cannot cope with the feeling of guilt for far-fetched mistakes or some of our actions, we cannot forgive ourselves for something. We experience strong emotional experiences and begin to punish ourselves with overeating.
5. When it is beneficial. There are times when weight is beneficial to us. For example, it helps to avoid the attention of the opposite sex, or, conversely, completeness helps to receive the help and attention and care of significant people. Well, how will you lose weight here
6. Self-image. Or maybe you have heard about yourself something like "plump / plump", "crumpet", "strong man", "fat man" from your childhood? These innocent words addressed to us from significant adults program our self-perception, are built into our own image. These patterns sound in your head and make you live in accordance with them.
7. Self-esteem is the foundation. Separately, it should be said that the problem with weight shows how we evaluate ourselves. And if you do nothing with low self-esteem, then it will remain so at any weight, making it difficult to be satisfied with yourself, even if you have lost weight.
What to do to reduce weight and what does the psychologist have to do with it?
Do you want to lose weight? Take care of your body and soul, because this is your life and you have the right to be happy. Doesn't it work on its own? Contact specialists. With them everything will be much easier, more efficient and better, because, as you know, you cannot see yourself through binoculars. Nutritional advice will help your body heal and support you on the path to change. Working with a psychologist, you realize the reasons leading to weight gain, reconsider your attitude to yourself, to life and to food. You will be able to accept yourself as you are, to live the unlived shame of imperfection, to say something that you could not tell anyone before. And when there is an opportunity to talk about a problem, the strength appears to change something.
And then the desired changes will not be long in coming! You will receive the weight of your dreams and harmony in your soul!
