Once on our website, an article was published about the need for personal therapy by Natalia Filimonova. But this article is catching up. And here is the reason.

Some time ago I met with my fellow psychologists. Suddenly one of them categorically stated that if a psychologist goes to personal therapy, then he is no longer a psychologist. That is, the essence of the question is that a psychologist should not go to therapy a priori, because "which of him is a psychologist if he goes to therapy..?"

Actually, I hardly know the lady, but since the conversation touched on a purely professional one, I nevertheless intervened.

The conclusions of the psychologist are very vague. It turns out that a priori we can't get sick, and if we get sick, then "I won't go to the doctors."

The therapy of psychologists in the Gestalt direction is not only present, it is generally required! And thus, it helps the psychologist.

By the way, after talking with other colleagues, it turned out that yes, indeed, there is such an opinion that the psychologist "will heal himself," and turning to another specialist seems to be a "shame".

What is it about? About pride with a certain neurotic component, similar to perfectionism. "How so? Me ?! I myself and for therapy ?! And to whom ?! To her ?! To him ?!" And then follows "untranslatable puns using local idiomatic expressions."

Resistance to the process or idea itself is a manifestation of the traumatized personality and is, of course, a defensive reaction.

Nevertheless, again recalling certain points in previous therapy with clients who came, with needles, cemeteries and other attributes of an individual correctional route, you understand that the former psychologist hardly went to personal therapy.

Pride is a very insidious thing and it is no coincidence that it belongs to the category of deadly sins. Arrogance, depreciation, expression of pretentiousness (especially with the appearance in the hands of a purchased diploma in a couple of months of training) speak of complex human problems.

The lack of understanding of professional competence due to, sadly, inertness and limitations, essentially leads a professional to the stage of degradation.

While I was writing down thoughts on this topic, I remembered how the system of advanced training is developed in universities and schools. And moreover, without fail.

So it is in psychology. Of course, it is important to find your psychologist according to some responsive parameters, but only consciously.

From my own experience. I am undergoing regular therapy. It was radical for me in 2012. It was a process of powerful personality transformation. This was followed by softer options. This is a process of removing various blocks, and rethinking something, and of course, cleansing introspection as the most convenient method of work …

And there can be nothing shameful and shameful in this. After all, all people … Each of us is characterized by ups and downs. Therefore, there are a number of nuances in the resistance to the idea of therapy itself, which have a serious impact on the quality of the psychologist's work.
