It is very difficult to listen to yourself in anxiety, it is difficult to feel yourself and detect your breathing. She is experienced bodily very vividly, unpleasantly and thoughts that may arise "need to do something" or "do at least something."

When the need, on which one would like to direct one's energy of excitement, is not clear, poorly realized, a vague experience arises and accumulates, and then increases. In this state, you want to return to the familiar and already known, to feel a clear ground in the situation, yourself or a friend. I would like to take the situation and this state under control. At least in what was possible and accessible at that time. And often in this state, the activity to relieve anxiety begins.

Gestalt anxiety is arrested excitement. This means that there is some kind of excitement (a vaguely experienced feeling or an unconscious need), and this excitement has to be somehow inhibited in order to make our movement more accurate. Anxiety, at its core, allows a person's behavior to be coordinated. Lack of clarity and awareness of oneself and one's needs, one's body and feelings leads to the fact that this excitement is removed by familiar activity. Many people find ways adopted in society, such as cleaning, shopping, sports, hobbies, cooking, etc. In frequent cases, anxiety causes eating disorders, workaholism, overdoing sports, alcoholism and self-injurious behavior. This gives temporary calming, bringing to the senses or vice versa in despair and some reliability, which you yourself can provide. But the anxiety returns again.

In this understanding, anxiety acts as a marker of a lack of reliability in the background of life and awareness of one's needs and feelings.

If we talk about the background, then in many ways life is made of things, organizations, theories and events that are not well understood. Life is arranged in such a way that it passes in a chronic lack of orientation. In the diversity of the world and the vagueness of its structure, it is not clear what to orientate on, whom to rely on, it is difficult to rely on something. In particular, few people in childhood and adulthood were explained how our own nature works. And important characteristics of what we are looking for in this diverse environment: resilience and what we can catch on to. Something stable, bringing a resource, a place to breathe out, or another that is reliable.

Another level is when awareness of the need is available. What is the excitement connected with and what stops it. Namely, when there is an opportunity to ask yourself questions:

-what happens to me, with my body and breath;

- what I am going through now and what is happening in my life;

- what I really want now;

- how can I realize my desire;

- what I am missing to implement it;

- who and what will give me the missing resource.

Our psyche is arranged in such a way (proven by neuroscientists) that the opportunity to feel most fully appears only in contact with another. Fortunately or unfortunately.

But with such an attentive attitude to your feelings and needs, it is possible to look closely, breathe, concentrate, and take consistent steps. A locus of control on the inner state (attention to oneself and awareness of oneself) and reliable ground (soil, foundation) helps to take outer steps more thoughtfully, focused on satisfaction of needs and growth. And you can start with breathing.
