In my work with management, I often meet with managers with difficulty in communicating with employees. Managers know how to set a clear, specific task based on market analysis, but in modern business it is not enough to simply set a task, it is important to build competent communication with employees. There are several models for providing feedback, and here is one of them:

4-step feedback technique, BOFF:

Actions

Note the fact / event and / or behavior.

Do not generalize (always / constantly / often), speak without emotional connotation.

For example: You did not submit a report today.

The result / effect of these actions

State the natural consequences that have occurred and / or may occur as a result of the noted event / behavior.

For example: It has led / may lead to….

Feelings

Describe your feelings, emotions, attitude to what is happening.

For example: I'm upset because I can't get the data in time, etc.

Future

Ask what the employee is willing to do / undertake to prevent this event / behavior from happening in the future.

For example: What will you do in the future to send the report on time?

If the agreements are not fulfilled, it is necessary the next time to move on to the logical consequences: Agree on what will happen if the employee violates the obligations?

The employee must propose himself.

For example:

Manager: We already had agreements, but you didn’t fulfill them. Therefore, let's agree on what will happen if you do not submit a report on time in the future?

I hope this article was useful and will help you in communication with your employees.
