Now it is very fashionable to talk about motivation, about the ways and techniques to achieve it, go to trainings and courses on motivation, constantly here and there new articles appear about how great it is when it is and what you can achieve a lot if you it was found.

But there are some desired results that no motivation is enough to achieve. For example, you want to learn a new foreign language. At the same time, there is an understanding that in order to master it, it will take two years of regular classes. During this time, motivation will quickly dry up. Because the desire for the result (knowledge of the language) is there, but the necessary actions (daily cramming) become lazy over time. Motivation is enough for an average of a month. This is the time when this fuel must be used to form a habit, to discipline oneself.

Everyone loves stomach cubes, but not everyone loves abs. Everyone loves nutty priests, but few are inspired by squats. Motivation is also enough for the first time (two weeks or a month), and then kickbacks and a return to the previous idle mode. How many buried projects have remained under the ruins of motivation, how many unfinished business, how many cubes have not been pumped up, how many languages have remained unlearned because of pinning their hopes on a magic pendel and the magic of her, dear, MOTIVATION!

Here's what you need to know: motivation is great, it's fuel for acceleration. But the fuel is running out. You will not be able to "charge" yourself endlessly! Then the way out is gaining discipline, accustoming oneself to daily obligatory, but not desirable ("unwilling") actions.

Motivation helps to quickly rush into battle, take up a new business with song and dances, run ten kilometers with zeal on the very first day, do twenty squats, translate half of the book in English with a dictionary, study the chords for playing the guitar, but the next day all the old energy blows away like a wind in a poppy field. The play ended before it began. A curtain.

And here the most unpleasant thing begins - when there is motivation, when the anticipation of the desired result warms the soul - do not splash, do not spray the magical power of motivation, be patient! Use it in portions! Motivation should be enough for a month (or 21 days, at least) to form a habit, and then discipline comes to the rescue - doing the necessary actions every day for the desired end result. Motivation is a great kick, but there isn't enough momentum to achieve. Use momentum as a foundation for habit formation. Laziness is not a lack of motivation. Laziness is a lack of discipline.
