Recently, I often meet opponents of positive thinking! Which in an exaggerated form tell the negative consequences of positive thinking. How a person, through positive thinking, drives himself into complex depression and psychosomatic illnesses.
The world is colorful and harmony and balance in everything are important. Harmony and balance are mandatory keywords in my sessions. After all, positive thinking presupposes a more positive formulation of goals, for example, or reframing (more on that another time). Nobody cancels basic emotions and their derivatives. Often we ourselves, just without going into the essence, hang labels, give one-sided definitions and dive headlong into one stream, when there are a great many of them.
For example, there are patterns of negative thinking and this is hardly a good thing.., it just is.
Our lives are replete with cognitive distortions and irrational thoughts, attitudes and beliefs, dysfunctional rules, habits, expectations and attitudes towards everything. Some sources show that in practice-oriented psychology with the help of cognitive conceptualization, the leading elements and connections of the thinking system are deduced, which are responsible for its errors. In other words, there are such "basic", fundamental deep beliefs and beliefs that were identified by the staff of the Albert Ellis Institute in New York:
- a must (must) attitude that is characterized by rigid and categorical cognitions; How often do you feel obligated to someone? And how often do you think you owe you? Yes, they don't owe anything and no one owes you anything.
- an evaluative attitude, characterized by cognitions associated with belittling oneself and judging others; Oooh, this is probably everyone's favorite topic. Beautiful, scary, smart-dumb, there is no voice, but she sings, I will not continue, she will bear it. Are you worried about the ratings of others? How will they look at you? Walk through the city center with a full trash can.
- catastrophizing attitude, characterized by catastrophic thinking; The thought of a minor embarrassment (the tights were torn in the morning) ends in an apocalypse.
- intolerance to frustration - an attitude characterized by cognitions associated with a low threshold of tolerance for frustration.
The absence of a favorite cake in a cafe ends with clinical depression.
These were patterns of negative thinking. I won't go with the bucket myself.
And yet, for example, there is a setting for predicting a negative future. Is this good or bad? Helpful or destructive?
This is a tendency when a person believes his specific negative expectations - both verbally formulated and as mental images. Becoming a prophet, or rather a pseudo-prophet, a person predicts failures for himself, then does everything to make them come true, and in the end gets them.
It's like beliefs. There is a conviction - money comes only by hard work, respectively, the subconscious mind strives to correspond all its life. And the whole life of a person is filled with difficult work and the subconscious is proud of its successes, because it seeks to fulfill everything that it hears and that is impregnated in us.
