In human history, women have always suffered from exploitation, injustice and humiliation. For centuries, men have used women to give birth to the next generation of people who, with their mother's milk, have absorbed the cultural message: "a woman should suffer and sacrifice herself."
Women are used to sacrifice. They have it in their blood. They are used to forgetting about themselves, caring for others. They saw their mothers being praised for neglecting themselves. They remember being called “ungrateful egotists” for trying to choose themselves over others. And for the sake of safety, they chose to give up their power, obeying the attempts of society to control them through fear and belief.
Unfortunately, even today many women are brought up so that they put their spouse, children, neighbors, strangers and work first. So that they continue to suffer and endure physical or psychological abuse, sacrifice their own interests for the sake of others. After all, taking care of oneself causes feelings of guilt (the occurrence of which is natural in a situation of choice) and danger (being "bad", rejected, etc.).
But a woman’s self-care is a prerequisite for changing the future of our planet. To finally stop passing on suffering and sacrifice to your children, thereby increasing the likelihood of their happiness. Stopping neglecting herself, the woman declares her right to Be. About the importance of your life.
When a daughter sees how her mother takes care of herself, it is easier for her to assimilate an understanding of her own worth. When a boy sees that his mother loves herself, he begins to respect the female nature.
Taking care of yourself is the beginning of a life-long romance with yourself. By taking care of herself, a woman regains the strength that many have tried to control. She becomes more confident in herself, begins to trust the signals of her body and soul, it becomes difficult to control her. She begins to distinguish between manipulations and ceases to be carried out on them - choosing herself. It becomes easier for her to defend her boundaries and say: "No", looking the other person directly in the eyes.
Self-care means the ability to see worthy, pure, good in oneself, in spite of the opinions and criticism of others. It implies a woman's readiness to be misunderstood, not comfortable and not good enough for others. Learning to take care of yourself takes some audacity to follow your wisdom and intuition; inner confidence that this will lead to a result that will suit everyone. As in the parable of the Jewish mother:
“Once upon a time there was a poor Jewish family. There were many children, but little money. The poor mother worked hard - cooked, washed and shouted, handed out cuffs and loudly complained about life. Finally, exhausted, she went to the rabbi for advice: how to become a good mother? Came out from him thoughtful. Since then it has been changed. There was no more money in the family. And the children did not become more obedient. But now my mother did not scold them, and a friendly smile did not leave her face. Once a week she went to the bazaar, and when she returned, for the whole evening, she locked herself in a room. The children were tormented by curiosity. Once they violated the ban and dropped in to see their mother. She sat at the table and drank tea with a sweet bun!
“Mom, what are you doing? But what about us? - the children shouted indignantly.
“Calm down, children! - she answered importantly - I am making you a happy mother!.
Self-care can be considered any activity by which a woman makes herself happy, consciously investing energy, time and money in her mental, emotional and physical health (the key word here is “consciously”). It is something that brings joy, recharges and energizes. It includes:
- Taking care of your body (sleep, healthy food, water balance, massage, spa, manicure, hair care (face, body), bath, sauna, yoga, dancing, various physical activities, walks, listening to your rhythms, rest, deep breathing, etc.)
- Creative and enriching activities (music, singing, reading books, knitting, embroidery, painting, shopping, learning new languages, flower care, photo shoots, traveling, cooking your favorite food, getting rid of unnecessary things, etc.)
- Relationships (getting support, going on a visit, asking for help, communicating with friends and like-minded people, showing love, etc.)
- Spiritual and inspiring activities (communication with a psychologist; attending therapeutic groups, trainings; meditation; keeping a diary (gratitude, success); forming new beliefs (affirmations); watching films with meaning; going to the theater, to concerts, ballet and exhibitions, to museums etc.).
Taking care of herself is a habit of putting on an oxygen mask on herself first. Knowing that it will make it easier for others to breathe.
