The most common observation about psychopaths is that they don't feel empathy. I said this myself in the courtroom, echoing a commonplace truth that I learned many years ago: "They are unable to empathize and are therefore prone to victimization (behavior provoking violence)."

Empathy refers to the ability to recognize and share feelings with others.

As noted in an important text (The Psychopathic Mind by J. Reid Meloy, Ph. D.), science unequivocally "supports the hypothesis that psychopathic individuals" (ie, people with "antisocial personality disorder") are "autonomously hyporeactive." In other words, their biology is such that they do not experience emotions as intensely as others, and therefore are not considered to be pressured by feelings of guilt, fear, anxiety, self-doubt, or remorse.

This does not mean that criminals and criminals have no feelings at all. In situations where an emotional response can be expected from a “more socialized, empathic individual,” as Meloi observed, they may feel little or nothing. But at the same time they can to portray "Intense, unmodulated affect that is dramatized in an unpredictable manner."

Whether they have "empathy" or not, they tend to be quite experienced in "feeling you."

How does an imprisoned man convince a female correctional worker to bring him nude photos? How could this happen? One unrepentant assassin explained this to me somehow. It all starts with establishing normal human contact based on understanding and trust. He shares her feelings with her, created emotional dependence, and then corrupted her. He has done this before, relying on his skill of empathy to use the needs and feelings of others.

A sociopath selling a pyramid scheme, an investment, or an expensive workshop is no different. They may feel the greed or despair of their victim, as well as the strength of their hopes and dreams. Showmen and carnival barkers feel their audience to seduce, as do all charlatans, hucksters and snake oil traders.

He is also no different from an aggressive psychopath (bully). Hooligans work using the power differential. It can be real or perceived, and social or physical.

In order to achieve their predatory goals, they seek to induce feelings of shame, frustration, horror, or fear. Their attacks are explained by their ability to sense the emotional vulnerability of their victims - to feel them and know how they can be intimidated, provoked or incited.

Psychopaths can have rich emotional lives. Narcissistic, they strive for love, admiration, and selfless satisfaction. As predators, they are excited by the hunt and suffering of their prey. They can take pleasure in seeing that others are dishonored and can find satisfaction in the suffering of an adversary. It is believed that because they are emotionally hyporeactive, they seek arousal and stimulation. They need more for them to feel aliveand therefore they need to feed on the emotions of other people.

To say that the psychopath lacks "empathy" requires a broader definition of the term. It is a definition of empathy that includes empathy and an unselfish, altruistic impulse. It is an emotion that leads us to feel the pain of others and to support them the way we would like to be treated.

When it is said that a psychopath lacks empathy, what is really meant is that they lack compassion, kindness, and a shared vision of morality. This means that they reserve the right to decide what justice is.

The psychopath seeks to dominate others in order to satisfy his desires. To awaken fear, shame, or deception in a victim, the psychopath needs to know how you are feeling and how you will react. They don't care or empathize with you, but you should never doubt that they feel you.
