The beautiful and successful Katerina, the heroine of Vera Alentova in the film "Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears", had no sadness - so the irresistible Goga, aka Zhora, clung to her in the train! I haven’t liked him intuitively since my youth. And now I understand with all clarity what kind of life Katerina began at the age of 40 … A very "fun" life.
So, let's analyze this subchik
On the train, Goga immediately behaves unceremoniously, violating the personal boundaries of an unfamiliar woman. At first he stubbornly examines her, then clings to a conversation (so pseudo-sincere, pseudo-simple, designed to quickly close the distance, create the illusion of closeness), during which he puts the heroine several "diagnoses" (there is no man, at work - no higher than the master), then inappropriately goes to "you". Which makes Katerina quite rightly jarring, and she seeks to get rid of this type.
An important nuance. Goga thoughtfully notes that Katerina has the look of an unmarried woman - because she is "evaluating." Although in fact, he evaluates, staring at her (Sam Waknin points out "maintaining penetrating eye contact" as characteristic of a narcissist) and immediately testing her compliance with violence with minor provocations. By defining a woman's gaze as evaluating, he projects onto her his eternally evaluating and comparing narcissistic nature.
In a completely narcissistic spirit, Gog begins a violent courtship. He imposes himself as a guide - while not forgetting to draw Katerina's attention to the fact that he only has enough money for a taxi to her house, and he will have to walk to his own. Like, estimate the scope of my sacrifice.
Katerina doesn't like the type of the train. But at the same time … interesting. Interesting in that he says and behaves "not like everyone else." More precisely, he behaves insolently and familiarly. Which is mistakenly taken by Katerina (and many thousands of spectators) for masculinity, confidence and strength.
And then Goga sticks to Katerina. The next day, he watches over her at the entrance and almost snatches the bags from her. Here is a man, we are milling at the screens. But the heroine is not a bag of potatoes rushing. She carries light bags, which she can handle quite well for 20 years of her husbandless life.
So Goga penetrates even deeper into Katerina's personal boundaries. Once in the apartment, he looks around and realizes that it was he who got there. I learned the details of his shameless behavior in the book by Valentin Chernykh, which was used as the basis for the script:
Goga looked around, looked into Katerina's room.
- Well, how? - asked Katerina.
- Good. Judging by the shine of the glass and the pile of the carpet, I cleaned it no more than a day ago. Preparing to meet me?
“You guessed it,” said Katerina. - Guess further.
- I think we'll have supper.
- I guess again. I'll just rest for ten minutes.
- Rest, - Goga allowed.
He went into the kitchen, opened the refrigerator, examined its contents, looked into the wall cabinets.
The seduction turns into an extravaganza: Goga "allows" Katerina to sit in an armchair and rushes to cook dinner. And, mind you, by someone else's hands, immediately adapting Alexandra for cleaning onions.
Then Goga puts on a show in honor of himself, his beloved: he gathers people for a picnic on the occasion of his birthday. First, he is lying - his birthday is at a different time. Secondly, such performances are a clear sign of a manipulative, deceitful person who knows how to seduce and who has done such things is not the first time. Thirdly, he eats away the national resource from several sources at once: from Katerina, Alexandra, friends.
Along the way, he manages to devalue some of them:
Alexandra started a conversation.

And the very appearance of Goga in Katerina's apartment on Sunday morning? He does not care at all that people sleep off on weekends, that they have other plans, that no one gave him consent to travel. Let's remember that he simply told Katerina and Alexandra about the picnic and left without waiting for either yes or no. And now he literally kicks them to the barbecue. Of course, for their own good, which he knows better than the potential beneficiaries themselves! In nature, they say, sleep off.
In the book of Chernykh there is a dialogue in which Katerina is still trying to tell Goga who she is at a picnic. Rather, he even tells. But he does not seem to hear her and in every possible way translates the topic, ironing over it and not forgetting to push himself out again:
“Goga,” Katerina warned, “despite all your insight, I am not who you take me for.
“Of course not that one,” Goga agreed. - You are better.
- I'm serious.
“She's serious,” Alexandra confirmed. “She’s not from a laundry factory, she’s big …
“… The head of industry,” Goga smiled.
“Yes,” said Katerina.
- You are also a deputy, of course. All our leaders are deputies.
“Yes,” Katerina confirmed again.
- And they go back and forth overseas. And you just got back from Paris yesterday.
“Not yesterday,” Alexandra corrected. - Two weeks ago.
- Let's not waste time on trifles, - said Goga. - Day, week, plus or minus - does not matter.
“I'm talking to you seriously,” said Katerina.
- Me too, - confirmed Goga. - You are a serious woman, I am a serious man. They talked about me so well here that, of course, you felt a certain inferiority complex. You want to tell me about your merits and achievements. We will talk for sure. Let's sit at home opposite each other: I have a question for you, you are my answer. Or there will be one of your monologues for the whole evening. I promise you. It is very interesting to me. And now let's go mushrooming.
By the way, at the same picnic, Alexandra asks Goga why he liked her mother so much. And he gives the answer in a narcissistic spirit. That, they say, Katerina is beautiful, but beauty in his understanding …
- Beauty in my understanding is functional perfection.
“I don’t understand,” Alexandra said.
- I looked at her and realized: your mother is perfect. She has everything that a woman needs, and nothing more. She is like a beautiful airplane.
After the picnic, Goga realizes that the ice is clearly broken: Katerina does not take her pensive, warm look from him. Soon we see Goga and Katerina in bed - it is obvious that the novel is developing very rapidly.
Well, it's time to do Pen Test. A slight hint of feeling the ground is contained in the following scene, described in Chernykh's book. Katerina spends the night with Lyudmila, Goga calls her there, and at the request of her friend, she calls him to come to them. But Goga, who appears and calls almost every day (when he wants it), suddenly gets into a pose. And the hotter Katerina asks, the more adamant Gog is. Even "kiss" at the end of the conversation to tell him to scrap. And this expresses a conscious or involuntary desire to frustrate Katerina. If you can't come - don't come, but it is very easy to maintain the feeling of reciprocity in Gog's allegedly beloved woman. But he doesn't want to.
Katerina picked up the phone and said:
- Come. I'll dictate the address to you now. Meet my high school friend.
Lyudmila whispered:
- I really want to listen, - and rushed to the kitchen, where there was a parallel telephone.
- It's too late, - admitted Goga. - Until I arrive, I will have to leave, otherwise I will not have time to take the metro.
- I'll give you money for a taxi.
- I’m like in that joke: Romanian officers don’t take money from women.
- I'll lend you until payday. Come. We still have a drink left.
- Thanks. I'm out of shape. Tired. And your friend should like me so that she doesn't have anything against me. I was glad to hear your voice.

They fell silent on the phone.
“I'll do it tomorrow,” Goga finally said and hung up.
In about the same way, as if slightly, but very noticeably for a woman in love, Goga frustrates her after the first sex. Before that, balaboling Alexandra that he and Katerina would live together, and he gives her six whole days to think it over, this time Goga behaves "mysteriously". Instead of confirming his initial intentions, assuring the woman of reciprocity, he laughs it off, keeps silent, and then says that he is brutally hungry.
Then they lay side by side, his hands still continued to caress her, she always needed it, but not a single man ever found out about it, but he understood.
- You are wonderful.

Let us also note the special "sensitivity" of Goga, who seemed to have guessed Katerina's need for final caresses. At a picnic, he covers her with a blanket. This narcissistic "sensitivity" - the lethal weapon of Seduction - slips into another episode:
In the lobby of the cinema, they bought ice cream, then lemonade. She wondered again how he could feel that after the ice cream she would be thirsty.
Feather's probes are amplified. Goga allows himself an absolutely sexist statement: "Remember, everything and always I will decide for myself on the simple basis that I am a man." In fact, he explicitly states his contempt for women. But again we get stuck and reach for our handkerchiefs - well, he is a real man, because he himself said that he is a man, and even in such a voice.
Katerina is still trying to defend her boundaries, reminding that, in fact, it is not necessary so zealously, without her agreement, to interfere in the life of her daughter. Goga started her in a "commanding" tone, threatening that if she once again allows herself this, then his legs will not be in this house. Has mastered! Threatens to rupture! And Katerina falls silent. And even apologizes - so far with restraint. She is already beginning to get into the habit of apologizing out of the blue. To apologize only because she is made guilty - moreover, rudely and in public.
So, the Pen tests were successful. The client is ready for an Ice Soul.
And it happens by itself when Rodion appears for dinner. Goga is visibly nervous. I think, in many respects, because comparing myself with the sleek and outwardly successful Rodion, I feel a sharp prick of insignificance. The lady, whom he had already imagined as his trophy, turned out to have what kind of suitors there are. And then the guest announces that Katerina is the director of the plant. What a well-aimed and powerful blow to the most painful place for Goghino - the pathological ego, rushing from insignificance to grandeur! Gogu is covered with a powerful wave of narcissistic shame, it literally paralyzes him. He is not ready to react adequately. He feels insignificance. She is intolerable. And it instantly merges.
Here is another detail. On the train, Gog involuntarily blurts out what he is jealous of. He "guesses" that Katerina holds a position no higher than a master. In fact, for Gogi, apparently, this is the ultimate dream. Which it was not possible to achieve - whether because of an unbearable character, lack of professionalism or elementary unreliability (can you really rely on a drunken alcoholic?). And he ALREADY envies Katherine as a master. And then it turns out that she is already a whole director. The earth disappears from under his feet, envy flares up with blinding fireworks …
Note that here Katerina almost runs after him, begging him not to leave. This is her first humiliation. Let's remember how dignified she behaved even in the situation with Rodion, when she became pregnant. And now we see a clear deformation of her psyche, which invariably arises even with a short communication with the perverse. Further, it will come to kneeling, and to kissing hands, and to washing the floors for the arrival of a mistress …
With the hardest experiences of narcissistic shame, Gog tries to cope with a long familiar way - goes into a binge. He drinks not at all because of worries about the collapse of love, and not because Katerina allegedly deceived him. With the help of alcoholic unconsciousness, he tries to stifle the intolerable experiences of narcissistic shame in himself.
Goga's behavior at the table, his intransigence to Katerina's pleas, rapid departure and disappearance - Goga behaves like a mortally resentful person. Like all victims of the perverse, Katerina feels her own monstrous guilt, almost betrayal. She is no longer able to turn on her, usually sober, brains and understand how clearly, blatantly disproportionate to Goga's reaction.
Immediately, we note that by demanding truth and almost confession from Katerina (and at the same time not wanting to listen to her), Goga provides extremely scant information about himself. In fact, all that is known about him is that he is a locksmith and divorced, and his wife was good and now lives with a good man. (By the way, I can already see what he will pester Katerina with in the future: praising her ex).
A characteristic beacon. The heroine Muravyova asks Katerina for the name of a loved one. And Katerina freezes in shock from herself: she has no idea what Goga's last name is! Such hurricane passions and half-unconsciousness are very characteristic of the victim of narcissistic seduction.
But Katerina's eyes are already obscured by a dense fog of gazlighting. She weeps, goes mad, curses herself for non-existent guilt. For mega-deception, which did not exist. For a betrayal that she did not commit. But the hour is not far off when she will consider herself guilty for being stronger than Goga, smarter than Goga, socially more successful than Goga …
All girlfriends plus Kolya are summoned. Everyone knocks off their feet, combing Moscow in search of Goga. How much fuss, how much anxiety, how much grief … As in the case of the picnic, the narcissist Gog manages to devour not only Katherine's resource, but also "extras".
Meanwhile, he has already begun to destroy Katerina's life. What is she thinking these eight days while Goga drinks bitter? About the factory? About workers? About your daughter? About a new dress, after all? No, in the Chernykh's story the first days Katerina … drinks, then decides not to go to work. She cries and tears her hair out. She raises everyone on the ears, tearing them away from business. Everything, except for Goga, has lost its significance for her.
Finally, Kolya finds Goga. And Goga is recovering quickly. Quit drinking because you were tired? Imbued with Kolya's iron arguments? No matter how it is. Very powerful, fantastically powerful, his grandeur was pumped up. The beautiful director of the plant and the deputy got him out of the ground! So he is ogogo. What is there: ogogo! There is no more need to drown insignificance in vodka, and the hero goes to rinse his face and change into a clean one.
Pay attention: having given himself to be persuaded to return, Goga looks at Katerina with a mournful philosophical face, but does not apologize at all. But Katerina will apologize to him, very deeply and repeatedly, do not hesitate. And he will apologize until the moment, until he gets through the rotten nature of Goga, as he once saw through Rodion.
Also note: Goga puts on a suit for the first time. Why would? And here's what: he seeks, at least outwardly, to "correspond" to Katerina's status. For Katerina the master, he skated an unpretentious casual, but for Katerina the director, you need to dress more pop-style …
Think about what kind of beaver Katerina killed in the face of the "brutal" Gogi. Having severely burned herself on one daffodil - Rudolph-Rodion, after 20 years she selects an even more perverse option.
But Goga can only be congratulated. I picked up an excellent trophy! Beautiful, successful, recognized, financially secure … And so conscientious, moving mountains for love! After all, she lay down with bones, and returned him! Yes, now he will take all the envy on this woman, all the hatred, he will outweigh all his own insignificance on her.
Yes, Katerina's life is just beginning, I have no doubt … A very "fun" life …
