Drawing work has wide diagnostic and therapeutic possibilities. The drawing can be used in individual, group and family therapy. The client's look at his drawing gives him the opportunity to look at himself, his relationship, his life "from the outside." Correction, correction in the drawing symbolically gives permission for changes in one's own life. In addition, by drawing, a person transfers his tension, his emotions to the paper, which brings relief and release on the physical level.

I bring to your attention one of the examples of working with a drawing.

Practical example.

A thirty-two-year-old woman, let's call her Lisa, is unhappy with her husband's behavior. After the birth of the youngest daughter (now the girl is four years old), he was "changed". Constantly dissatisfied with something, can raise his voice, defiantly ignores the requests of his wife. The family has an older child - a girl of twelve years old.

I suggest Lisa:

- Draw a relationship with your husband.

Draws, it turns out the following: in the first place is the youngest daughter, then the husband, Lisa, the eldest daughter.

- Look closely at the drawing, what do you notice on it?

- I see the youngest daughter as if separately. We are all holding hands, and she …

- How does she feel?

- Well, she likes that she is 'on her own'. Can do whatever he wants.

- She has a red bow on her head. What does this mean for you?

- That she's a pretty little girl.

- I see that no one has ears. What does this mean?

- Nobody hears anyone. And there is. Will I draw the ears?

- Of course, if you want.

- What would Lisa want to hear from her husband?

- Things are good.

- And the husband from Lisa?

- I love, we have a family.

- The little pretty girl is on the right, in relation to other family members, to the right of all. What associations do you have for the word "right"?

- Rules, correct, rights, edit …

- Who rules in your family?

- Looks like she. All family interests are centered around the youngest daughter.

- What do you think, Lisa, as a girl who is only four years old feels herself in the role of ruler?

- I think that this burden is beyond her years. What to do?

- Who would better cope with the role of the head of the family?

- Husband.

- Where could your husband be?

- First on the right. I realized that on the right is the one who has more rights.

- Where would the baby be comfortable to be?

- Probably next to my older sister. How to do this in the picture? Perhaps I will erase, and then draw the daughter in another place.

Redraws. Increases the shoulders of the husband.

- You have increased your husband's shoulders. What does this mean for you?

He felt himself in charge and squared his shoulders. Broad shoulders are associated with masculinity and responsibility.

- Is your husband really courageous, responsible?

- Yes.

- And you tell him about it?

- No.

- What will change if you say?

- He will be very pleased.

- What else do you value in your husband?

- He's smart, hardworking, handsome, sexy.

- What happens to your husband when he hears Lisa?

- He immediately wants to put on pants and boots.

- What do you feel when next to you is a courageous, responsible, intelligent, hardworking, handsome, sexy man? And this is your husband.

- I want to match him, put on a red scarf, put on makeup, high heels.

- Do you often go without makeup?

- How the youngest daughter was born, all the time. (With surprise). This is what happens. After the birth of my daughter, I put her in first place, stopped taking care of myself, spending time with my husband. And she only demanded from him: "Bring me, bring me." Is it his revenge that he refuses to comply with my requests?

Lisa made changes to the drawing and, accordingly, to her ideas about family life. After that, she can change her behavior.
