Let's talk about trance … So, trance is natural and pharmacological. A natural trance is one that arises voluntarily (strong emotions, for example) and is artificially induced. To pharmacological trance we refer to the change in consciousness with the help of chemical and pharmacological agents (alcohol, drugs, etc.). In this article, I will be looking at the natural types of trance. To understand the mechanisms of trance, you need to understand the very nature of trance. I will try to explain briefly.

A person has two hemispheres - left and right, they perform completely different functions. The left hemisphere analyzes, calculates, compares the received information and gives the command to the right one - to accept this information as true or to block as false. The right hemisphere is responsible for emotions, images.. The right hemisphere is a repository of all previously received images-attitudes. It does not reason, it just feels and believes everything. The left hemisphere of the brain can be compared to a male guardian who guards a sensitive, trusting woman (right hemisphere). In the ordinary state of consciousness, both hemispheres work simultaneously in the same mode, "communicating". But at the moment of strong emotional stress, strong emotions come to the fore, and the right hemisphere, bypassing the "reasoning" of the left hemisphere, takes the whole picture that caused this emotion (including statements, appearance-picture, smells, etc.) in the store. For example, a mother shouts with a rod in her hand at her child: "You are bad, you are stupid!" and the child, against the background of a strong emotion (fear of a stronger one) begins to believe that he is really bad and stupid - at the moment of a strong emotion, he has no opportunity to reason. If this had not been such a strong emotion, the child would have the opportunity to slowly analyze the words of his mother with his left hemisphere and draw the correct conclusion for himself that his mother is upset and just got excited, and he himself is good and smart, just did the wrong thing.

So, a trance hypnotic state is an open access to the unconscious, illogical. A trance can be either natural (strong emotion, for example) or deliberately induced. In any case, in a trance state, a person does not have the opportunity to analyze what is happening or what happened earlier.

In psychology, we are interested in access to the unconscious "repository" of life experience and attitudes - to the right hemisphere. It is logical that for this we need to somehow disable the left one. How to do it? Here are the main ways:

The way of overloading is to overload the client with information through several channels - (logic, sensory channels). In this case, the psyche simply cannot cope with so much incoming information, and the client falls into a stupor - he stops thinking altogether, and, therefore, the trance state is achieved. This technique is often used by gypsies - they surround a person and start talking to him at the same time, while touching him in several places.

A shock way to induce a trance. It lies in the fact that each person has certain patterns of behavior, and the breaking of these patterns causes a trance. For example, when a person gives you a hand to say hello, you will automatically give him a hand in return. But if, after you shake hands, that person simply turns away from you, you will have a moment of confusion, as you certainly did not expect. The moment of confusion is and will be a trance state.

Long-term monotonous exposure. It consists in long, monotonous effect either on vision (flashes, blinking, for example), or on hearing (the sound of a metronome). Over time, the left hemisphere gets tired and just turns off work.

Complete deprivation - a person is immersed in a dark room in a warm bath, completely isolated from noise and light, vibrations. The left hemisphere loses the ability to analyze anything and turns off.

Induction of a trance by verbal suggestions of the necessary state. In this case, a state of relaxation, comfort, coziness, sleep is instilled in a person. For people with normal and high blood pressure, relaxation begins from the head, dropping down to the toes. People with low blood pressure are encouraged to relax from toe to head. Warmth and heaviness are instilled in the body.

You can go into a trance on your own. A frequently used technique is to stop the gaze, while you need to look at one point for some time WITHOUT MOVING YOUR EYES, and while your gaze is motionless, you are in a trance. You can relax all the muscles, thereby turning off the left hemisphere, which is responsible for muscle tension. You can concentrate on internal sensations, such as your heartbeat.

In general, there are many options for entering a trance, but they are all based on "turning off" the left hemisphere.
