Who among us has not heard this famous statement? Unfortunately, not many people know that it belongs to Socrates. Although if you do not go straight to the Internet looking for authorship, but sit down and think about which of the famous people of the past could own different quotes, then you can think of the truth with your own head. I will still have a thought on this topic. For now, about something else.

Many people like to argue, reaching the point of self-forgetfulness. Many do not believe that truth is born in disputes, and they fear that, on the contrary, any discussion is prone to end in strife and quarrel. However, I think this approach to disputes is fair. Here are my arguments.

First, any communication, dialogue, including a dispute, should initially start from the position of self-respect and respect for the opponent. In a dispute, it is not necessary to get personal and look for weak points, first of all it is necessary to investigate the very topic of the dispute from all sides. We must strive to maintain composure in all situations, develop mental resilience and be in harmony with our emotions.

Secondly, any person on the path of life forms their judgments, achieves something through the experience of the past and, taking into account the knowledge of other people. You can move in accordance with someone's position in whole or in part, or you can move in the opposite direction, starting from someone's position, arguing with it. A person always interacts with the people around him, only he can move either towards them, or in the opposite direction from them, but he cannot live in a vacuum. In this sense, it is in the dispute that the truth is born, since when building argumentation and examining the subject of the dispute, you start from the judgments of the opposite side.

This article was written hot on the heels of a personal experience. I have been a member of the social media community for a long time, which produces interesting content. A few days ago, the community changed its editor, and he encouraged members to suggest different ideas for development.

I also have a personal blog (which I mentioned several times already) and have written a series of essays on community topics. In response to the proposal of the new editor, I allowed to take some thoughts from there and develop them in my own way or even argue with me, because in disputes, truth can really be born if the parties to the dispute are respectful to each other and carefully work on argumentation of their position.
